Women's Heritage Walk
The Women's Heritage Walk is a 5-day walk through the desert from Al Ain to Abu Dhabi, in the UAE.
It was started by American expat Jody Ballard in 2015 and is as much a celebration of bedouin culture and history as a time of empowerment for the women who participate. In 2018, 50 women of 18 different nationalities made the challenging trek, retracing the traditional 125km route by walking approximately 25km a day.
Despite the intense physical challenge, made even more difficult by two days of grueling sandstorm, the women always stayed supportive of each other. They unfailingly celebrated the bonds of sisterhood they formed, sealed by plenty of sweat and tears.
